NeuroQueer Expression - Sensory-friendly Creative Movement

NeuroQueer Expression is creative movement/crafting in a sensory-friendly, neurodivergent Queer + Trans space with no steps to follow, only optional silent disco to intuitively flow to. It is free room: a space for you to whoop and holler, lay down on the floor, stretch, cry, laugh, stand on your head, or dance your heart out! We provide plenty of crafts and books for those who do not feel called to dance, ribbons for twirling, beach balls, balloons, and even a jumbo rainbow parachute to run under!

A lot of Queer/Trans community and events tend to be rooted in nightlife, something often inaccessible to disabled community members (immunocompromised people, neurodivergent people with sensory issues, etc.) However, disabled Queer/Trans people deserve to celebrate in community at events tailored to their needs. So, this event is designed for those who may not like or cannot attend events with large crowds and loud music!

Similar to our other Queer Expression St. Pete events, NeuroQueer Expression will have music that arcs: beginning slowly, building up to a climax, and winding back down. However, NeuroQueer Expression differs in that: - Our event will be capped at 15 people, making it intimate and not overcrowded.

  • Masks will be required to make it accessible for disabled community members.

  • With our optional silent disco*, community members will be able to listen to our curated playlist that follows the creative movement arc, and have the option to remove the headphones whenever they need a break from the music or feel overstimulated.

  • Those who do not choose our silent disco option are welcome to join us with their own headphones to listen to their music, watch a comfort tv show or movie on a personal device, or simply enjoy the silence while in community with fellow queer and trans people!

*Thanks to a donation from Quiet Events Inc, we have 9 silent disco headphones available to listen to the playlist that we have curated for the space. 6 spots are available to bring your own headphones and listen to your own music, or not listen to anything and enjoy the silence. Please try to arrive just before 3PM!

Opening and closing the dance together honors community and allows us to truly connect with each other. You are encouraged to bring

  • a journal + a pen - a sketchbook

  • craft projects

  • a blanket/pillow to sit on

  • juggling or flow props

  • a comfort object (a stuffed animal, security blanket, sweater, etc.)

  • ear plugs/headphones/personal device (if needed)

  • snacks - lots of water

  • We recommend you wear comfortable clothing!
