Yoga Nidra, often referred to as “yogic sleep,” is both a practice and a state of being. It is an invitation to REST, slow down, and calm the central nervous system. It is an opportunity to be guided on a journey to connect more deeply with self, intuition, or the Divine. In this way, we are said to AWAKEN in sleep, because we come to know our true nature. We REMEMBER who we are, bringing back all of the parts of ourself into wholeness, love, and “samadhi”, blissful union with the divine.
We will open with introductions and intentions. You will then be invited to lie down in Savasana as you are led through a body scan, breath awareness, and a guided visualization through the “koshas,” or layers of consciousness. The visualization typically involves a deep imagining in nature - connection with the earth, the ocean, the cosmos. The journey will culminate in a sacred sound bath with crystal bowls, vocals, and other instruments. We will close with a time of sharing and connection.
Yoga Nidra is given in a loving and safe environment. The practice makes use of visceral, descriptive language. You may consider seeking counsel from a mental health professional if you have experienced deep trauma, and if guided visualizations are new to your practice. Please honor and care for your heart and use your best judgment as to whether this will feel safe and healing for you. You may also reach out to Jenn with any questions. (hi@jenngaudreau.com)
