What drew you to The Collective?
Energy and freedom! The energy in this studio is palpable. You can feel it when you walk through the doors and step onto the wood floors. The founders of The Collective have created a space you don’t want to leave. It’s organic and inviting! I only recently graduated from my YTT program in December and reached out to be apart of their apprenticeship program (which I completed in February). I knew I wanted to lead a class that was going to utilize a playlist that may not be accepted at other studios. The founders embraced my style from the start! To allow the teachers the freedom to teach and play music how they want reassures why I want to hold space.
Long live The Collective!
What kind of teacher are you?
I like to think of my style as “unconventional”. The practice I love to lead is soaked in yogic tradition and philosophy, but I also want to provide my students the space to let loose on their mats and explore what brought them there. You want to hold a pose for longer than I offer, do it! You want to jump in the air and scream out nonsense, cool! In my class, my playlist consists of modern alternative music (pop-punk, hardcore, etc.) and I chant Sanskrit mantras to conclude our practice. The bottom line, I just want to hold space and make people feel good.
What else are you up to?
I just became a father! My wife, Sara, gave birth to our handsome and healthy baby boy, Jackson, in February. Aside for taking care of my family, I love cooking/baking, going on motorcycle adventures, getting tattooed, and spending time at record shops.
