Join us for the summer solstice as we collectively practice 108 sun salutations (Surya Namaskar) at sunset.
Hot tea, a guided meditation, and journaling prompts will first be offered to help set your intention. Following the sun salutations, we will wind down the practice with a cleansing sound bath and long Savasana by candlelight.
The summer solstice is the longest day of the year and therefore a time to honor the sun’s blessing of warmth and light. As this day marks the start of a new season, it is also an opportunity to welcome creation or let go of what you no longer need.
Why 108?
The number 108 is significant across a variety of disciplines. Ayurveda teaches that the human body has 108 sacred points known as marmas. In sacred texts, there are 108 Upanishads and 108 Tantras. Mala bead necklaces, used for counting during meditation, traditionally have 108 beads. In numerology, 108 equals 9, symbolizing universal love, eternity, and awakening. Additionally, the distance between the Sun and Earth is approximately 108 times the Sun's diameter.
